Scotland, the land of bagpipes, clans, and whisky, offers much to capture the heart of visitors. There is the far sweeping and uncrowded scenery of the Highlands and islands from Wester Ross to Inverness, from Skye to Orkney. Pastures, woodlands, and mountains make up the countryside where castle ruins, historic abbeys, and prehistoric remains beckon.
The cities and towns — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Aberdeen, Perth—offer history, museums, and modern life on an easily accessible platter. Historic villages—Lanark, Culross, and Braemar—tell tales of their own.
This is a land of legends larger than life: the Loch Ness monster, Rob Roy, William Wallace, Robbie Burns, and Robert the Bruce. Glen Coe, the wilds of Shetland, the tartan—there is much in the tapestry that makes up Scotland. Not the least of these ingredients are the friendly people of the country where the spirit of Scotland is most in evidence.
