Young families are being encouraged to visit Haldon Forest Park near Exeter and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer.
The Forestry Commission, which manages the site has launched a leaflet and poster campaign to tell more young families about Haldon, which is free to visit other than a small parking charge. It is also promoting the health and well being benefits of spending time in the great outdoors for parents and children.
There are a range of walking and cycling trails at the site including the 1.5 mile play trail which is suitable for buggies, walkers and beginners on bikes. It also offers fantastic views and fun play features for young adventurers to enjoy.
There are two waymarked cycling trails suitable for families and children in tag-alongs and trailer buggies which can be hired from Forest Cycle Hire who are based on site. There are also play areas and the Ridge Cafe is on site offering a range of locally sourced, fairtrade and organic food and drink.
In addition Go Ape, the highwire adventure course is based at Haldon and the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World is based there and runs a number of family friendly activities.
Haldon Forest Park Manager Louise Bell said, “Haldon is a wonderful place for families to spend time together. Research has proven that spending time in the great outdoors and being more physically active can have significant health and wellbeing benefits. Haldon offers traffic free space where children can safely run around and explore without even realising they are exercising. Its also a great place for adults to walk and cycle and stay in shape, great for pregnant women or new mums trying to get back in to shape.
