Christmas Cheer at the Bowes Museum 1-22 Dec

Come and experience the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas as The Bowes Museum decks the halls with festive cheer.

Santa will be in residence from 1 – 22 December. On arrival children will be greeted by his friendly elves who’ll lead them through to his workshop where they can create seasonal crafts to take home before meeting Santa in his cosy sitting room grotto where he’ll complete the magic by giving all eligible children an early Christmas gift. Admission to Santa’s grotto is £12 a child.

Indulge in a fun and festive evening after work at our Festive Friday on 6 December from 5 until 7, when the Museum will be open for late night shopping. Get gifts, cards, decorations and more or just relax with delicious seasonal food and drinks in Café Bowes. The galleries will be decorated for Christmas, so it’s the perfect time to come and make some memories around the trees and enjoy the wonderful winter exhibitions.

There’s also the chance to savour a Yuletide Festive Lunch with Carols, on 8 December from 12.30. For £25.95 for adults and £17.95 for children you can celebrate Christmas with a delicious 3 course lunch with live festive music from the fabulous Sophia Strings quartet accompanied by two singers in the magnificent surroundings of the Jubilee Room while enjoying stunning panoramic views of Teesdale.

And join us for the feel good event of the season as the ever-popular Christmas Market returns on 13, 14 & 15 December from 10 – 4. There will be over 70 handpicked stalls selling a variety of wares both inside the Museum and on the parterre garden. You can choose from lots of homemade goodies including: candles, leather bags, glassware, soft furnishings, wreaths and decorations, jewellery, footwear and stationery to name just a few.

You can find lots of trimmings for your Christmas table too with artisan pies, cheeses, chocolates, meats, gins, jams, cakes and vegan delights. Don’t forget there’ll be lots of hot food and drink available to buy to eat on the day too, including mulled wine, hot chocolate, prosecco, loaded fries, pizza, sizzling sausages and loaded nachos.

There will also be fabulous live music to help get you in the Christmas spirit early and free rides on the children’s carousel! Entry is free to pass holders or just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

Don’t forget to pop into the shop for something sparkly to take home to remind you of your visit or Café Bowes if you want to take the weight off your feet and get a delicious bite of seasonal food.
