Santa returns to The Bowes Museum now to 22 December

Make your Christmas even more magical this year by booking now to see Santa Claus at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.

Santa has found time in his busy schedule to welcome children to his wonderful woodland grotto. On arrival you’ll be greeted by his friendly elves who’ll lead you to his toyshop where you can create some seasonal crafts to take home, before being taken to meet Santa in his cosy sitting room grotto where he’ll complete the magic by giving all eligible children an early Christmas gift.

He’ll be taking up residence until Sunday 22 December and slots are available to book online now, thereby avoiding disappointment.

Santa will be at the Museum from 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2pm – 4.30pm at weekends and from 3.30pm - 5.30pm on the 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th. He’ll be here from 3.30pm - 6pm on the 19th and from 3.30pm - 6.30pm on the 20th. The sessions on Sunday 22nd December will have lower lighting and music levels and will be a meet and greet style visit, where children can approach Santa if and when they want to.

Santa will also be on site during the Museum’s annual Christmas Market.

The popular shopping event returns from 10am – 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 13th – 15th December when the Museum and grounds turn into a festive wonderland with a wide range of handpicked stall holders offering delicious locally sourced food and drinks, unique crafts, live music and seasonal entertainment.

Admission to the Market is £5 for adults, £2.50 for children or free for pass holders and includes entry to the Museum.

Admission to Santa’s grotto is £12 per child, with no charge for accompanying adults. This includes a gift and entry to the Museum. Children who are booked to see Santa between 13th and 15th December will be admitted free of charge to the Christmas Market, while adults will pay just £5.00, which also includes admission to the Museum.

While visiting the grotto and/or the Market, why not browse the shop for sparkling decorations and bespoke gifts or warm up in Café Bowes with a delicious hot drink or snack before exploring the Museum?

The Bowes Museum is open daily from 10am. Details of events and exhibitions can be found on the website at
