Lecture, Talk, and Activity at the Queen's Gallery and the Palace of Holyroodhouse until 27 October

LECTURE:

Presenting Mary's Chambers:
Palace of Holyroodhouse
2 October
Mary, Queen of Scots’ Closet, a small turret room in the James V tower, has been opened to visitors for the first time. Visit to see two recently conserved tapestries that were displayed here in the 19th century and still fit the space perfectly today. Find out about how Mary’s historic apartments have been displayed across the last 500 years in our lunchtime lecture.

TALK:

Dashkova Day:
The Queen's Gallery, Edinburgh
16 October
Inspired by the Russian princess Ekaterina Dashkova who lived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse during the Enlightenment, a series of short talks explores culture and diplomacy in Britain and Russia during the reigns of Catherine the Great and George III. For more on this theme, don’t miss must-see exhibition Russia, Royalty & the Romanovs in The Queen’s Gallery until 3 November.

ACTIVITY:

Witches, Potions and Bald Agnes:
Palace of Holyroodhouse
14 - 27 October
Get set for Halloween and join us for a spooky week of activities during the next half term holiday. Inspired by the 17th century fears of witchcraft and the legend of Agnes Sampson, who lost her life at the Palace, we’ll have family short talks, a beginner’s guide to herbology and multi-sensory storytelling sessions.
