August Events at Berkeley Castle for Families and Adults

From sword fights with brave knights to outdoor theatre on summer nights. From jazz-filled picnics to living history you're sure to find something to please. Take a look at our programme below and you'll see what we mean.

And remember that all of these fabulous activities are included in your entry fee to the Castle and Gardens (unless stated otherwise) so your fun and fact-packed days will be brimming with value too.

Ghosts of Berkeley Castle Exhibition:
Ends 31 October
This summer we've added another exciting dimension to the atmosphere of Berkeley Castle.
Local artists Jackie Lantelli & Sadie Kitchen have brought our rich history to life with an emotive series of ghostly sculptures. Well known for their ghostlike wire sculptures of WW1 soldiers exhibited last year in Slimbridge Churchyard, Jackie & Sadie have beautifully captured the spirit of some of the Castle's past inhabitants.
Search the Castle and its grounds and amongst others you'll discover Edward II, doomed in his cell; Elizabeth I, crossbow poised to slay the Earl's prize stags and Dicky Pearce, the unfortunate jester who fell from the Minstrel’s Gallery.

Grandparents' Day:
Every Monday throughout August
(excluding Monday 26th August)
Free entry & hot drink for grandparents.
Create joyful memories with your grandchildren as you spend time together exploring the Castle and its grounds. The little ones will love our entertaining storytelling and arts and crafts sessions while Grandparents are celebrated with free entry and a free hot drink.
Enjoy free entry with each paying grandchild and a complimentary hot drink with any lunch purchased.

Story-telling in the Great Hall:
Mondays at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3.00pm
19 August
Storyteller Cassandra masterfully ignites imaginations of all ages as she narrates captivating stories of old.
Cassandra's magical tales intertwine seamlessly with ideas plucked from the audience so your contribution might well be brought to life before you in The Great Hall.
Enjoy arts and crafts in the Education Room and recharge with a refreshing visit to the Yurt Tea Room.

Jester Skills:
Tuesdays - 20, 27 August
Meet, Monty, the cheekiest Jester in the land!
Monty, the cheekiest Jester in the land, comes out to play on Tuesdays to entertain you with his fabulous magic shows. You can also learn tightrope-walking and juggling, and there's lots of fun challenges and games to keep the kids busy as they let off all that steam. Who can master the crazy bike that refuses to ride in a straight line?

Archery Shows & A Wandering Knight:
Wednesdays - 21 and 28 August
Learn an exciting new skill. Guarding the entry gates to the Castle is our chivalrous knight. He's a warrior but a friendly one and welcomes all your questions about his incredible armour and weapons.
The art of historic weaponry also extends over to the Queen Elizabeth I Bowling Lawn where you can try your own hand at archery and watch archery shows throughout the day.

Meet and Ride a Unicorn:
Sunday 18 August
An exciting day of myths and legend as unicorns arrive at the Castle!
Young unicorn fans will love this opportunity to take a unicorn-pony ride and there's arts & crafts and unicorn face-painting to enjoy too. Please book your unicorn-pony ride in advance.
*A small fee applies to all these activities. **Admission tickets to the Castle are to be purchased separately on the day of attendance.
