Join artist Chris Mouncey for an enjoyable day painting The Bowes Museum in the fresh air. Chris will show you different painting techniques to help you create inspiring architectural pictures and answer your questions throughout the day. This workshop is part of the events programme for Lego: Building The Bowes Museum. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be held inside the Museum. A full itinerary for the day and a list of materials you need to bring with you is available on the Museum website.

Singing for the Brain - Lego: Building The Bowes Museum

Singing for the Brain sessions use singing to bring people living with dementia together in a friendly and stimulating way. In this session, we will explore the current Lego exhibition together before enjoying some refreshments and a themed singalong. Cobweb Orchestra

Join players from the Cobweb Orchestra and Soprano Valentina Marghinotti as they rehearse arias from operas by Handel, Mozart, Bellini and Rossini. The orchestra will be performing later in the evening at the preview of the new exhibition The Power and the Virtue: Guido Reni’s Death of Lucretia.

Let the magic of Christmas truly come to life and behold our collection as a fantastic array of displays and installations that create a narration around Christmas.

Joséphine Bowes’ Winter Pictures
22 November, 10 – 4

Booking required
Joséphine Bowes’ pictures are full of atmosphere. In this class with artist Linda Birch you will visit the galleries to sketch and observe her snowy, stormy works then learn practical techniques to recreate the pre-impressionist style and capture the winter light. Please bring with you: your oils, acrylics plus brushes and large palette, an easel or table easel, a fairly large painting surface, canvas or board (approximately A2 or larger as Joséphine painted large pictures) a winter landscape photograph with some trees.

Singing for the Brain Christmas Special
29 November, 10.30 - 12.00noon
Singing for the Brain sessions use singing to bring people living with dementia together in a friendly and stimulating way. In this session, we’ll explore the Museum decorated for Christmas before having some refreshments and a festive singalong in the picture galleries. The singalong is open to all Museum visitors, so if you’d like to join in or listen please come along to the picture galleries from 11.30.

Santa’s Enchanted Wonderland Grotto
