Droplets on Dartmoor Photography Exhibition now to 31 July

A collaboration between primary school children and an experimental Dartmoor photographer is celebrated in a summer exhibition at the Princetown Visitor Centre.

Droplets on Dartmoor launchs on Saturday 15 June producing a fusion of poetry and images to showcase the beauty of moorland water.

Photographer Chris Bloodworth took a number of shots with his lens focusing through recreated droplets of water and on to the landscape beyond.

Other pictures employ more traditional techniques but concentrate on the moor’s ever-changing waterfalls and enigmatic water features.

Chris and his images are joined at the 11am launch event by pupils from Princetown Primary who will read a selection of their poems inspired by Chris’ work.

A three-minute film showcases some of the artist’s work.

On Saturday 27 July, a Droplets on Dartmoor workshop at the Visitor Centre coincides with a Summer Fair and allows children and adults alike to learn from Chris’s techniques and create their own images.

The artist will also demonstrate how to create the inspirational ‘droplets’ in the visitor centre’s conservation garden.

Chris said: "With its history and incredible landscapes Dartmoor is the perfect place to take a camera and discover new places and how they can be presented on film. I like to experiment with exposure, colour and contrast to create an expression of how the landscape can present itself either through interpreting a story or the feeling of being there.

"Water and rain is prominent on Dartmoor, its rivers, streams and beautiful waterfalls shape the landscape. Droplets on Dartmoor came from this idea and due to its different forms lent itself to an experimental method of photography as well as inspiring a new generation through poetry."

The exhibition runs from 15 June - 31 July with a selection of Chris Bloodworth’s images available to buy.

Other off-site activities yet to be confirmed for the program’s duration may include inspirational poetry walks and photography workshops.
