Rio the green iguana:
Please join us in welcoming Rio to the Living Rainforest! Green iguanas (Iguana iguana) are from Central & South America and the Caribbean. They are strong swimmers and enjoy resting on tree branches. Not all green iguanas are in fact green. They sometimes exhibit different colours including orange, like Rio.
Edwin the channel billed toucan:
Edwin is another recent arrival, and shares his new home with Jack the agouti. Channel billed toucans come from South America. They rarely fly far, and prefer bouncing from branch to branch.
King of the bromeliads:
Known as ‘king of the bromeliads’, the Vriesea hieroglyphica is named after the linear horizontal patterns on the leaves that resemble hieroglyphs. It is one of 30 species of bromeliad you can see in our new display in the Amazonica glasshouse.
