Irelandís Shannon region lies in the mid-west of the country and stretches to the Atlantic ocean. Its counties are Clare, Kerry (North), Limerick, Offaly (South), and Tipperary (North).

The Burren courtesy Shannon Tourism Walk along clifftops, hike up a mountain, or revel in the glories of sandy beaches. Visit Burren National Parkís unique eco-system. Throughout the Shannon region prehistoric sites aboundóthe Burren alone has more than 2000. The five-mile-long dark sandstone cliffs of Moher are a must-see attraction. Rising 600 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, they provide a dangerous but wildly beautiful landscape.

Mediaeval castles, ancient forts and burial sites, abbeys and monasteries, and bronze-age settlements are waiting to be explored. Join in the Brian Boru (Irelandís 11th century king) festival in Killaloe, or take in Listowelís Writers Week festival. At Tuamgraney is Saint Cronans, the oldest church in continuous use in Ireland. Limerick is Irelandís third largest city and an historic port. Clonmacnoise, a celebrated ecclesiastical site, is a popular destination.
