Midlands East

The Midlands East Region of Ireland encompasses the area north, west, and south of the capital city of Dublin. The counties in this area are Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, North Offaly, Westmeath
and Wicklow.

Hill of Tara by Barbara Ballard The area provides many varied attractions for the visitor from the prehistoric to the present, from the Celtic to the Christian. Even the countryside is varied, containing mountains, beaches, waterways, and lakes. The scenery makes walking an attraction on its own, while the 80 golf courses cater to a different breed of walkers. Biking allows for time to view the stunning scenery of the Wicklow National Park and Slieve Bloom mountains, while the coastal roads offer their own special vistas. The Midlands are where Irelandís lakeland area is found. There is much on offer for the angler with the lakes, rivers, and sea offering up their bounty.

Kells, site of the writing of the famous book, is in county Meath. A famous battle, the battle of the Boyne, was fought in this area. The Hill of Tara, seat of the high kings of Ireland, is another historical connection in the Midlands East.
