Pashley Manor Gardens, East Sussex

Garden scene by John Bishop Pashley Manor gardens are quintessentially English, the type of garden that so many visitors to England associate with the country. Landscape architect Anthony du Gard Pasley had a hand in the garden design/refurbishment.

The Ha-ha by Stuart Logan Visitors in early spring will see fruit trees in bloom and wild daffodils and narcissi. In the woods are bluebells. Spring is also the time when thousands of tulip blooms brighten the garden, while wisteria covers the back of the manor house, a timber- framed Grade 1 listed building. The house, owned and lived in by Mr and Mrs James Sellick, was built in 1550 and in 1720 was enlarged.

Rose Walk by David Antiss June’s garden highlights are lavender and roses that bloom all summer. Sweet peas and lilies add colour in July as do different bedding plants. August and September focuses on anemones, asters, dahlias, and other late flowering plants.

In addition to the garden there are old trees, ponds, and fountains.

Pool in the garden by David Antiss Pashley Manor gardens run a number of special events. These include a tulip festival in late April/early May, a rose weekend in June, a lily time in late July/early August, a bluebell walk, a plant and garden fair, a kitchen garden weekend, and the Sussex Guild craft show in September. Each year a different sculpture exhibition takes place in the gardens. For exact dates check the website.
