 The Lake District was Beatrix Potter’s home for the last 30 years of her life. Before these years she spent many holidays in the Lake District with her family. She explored the countryside during her holidays and later life, and the places, wildlife, and vegetation she discovered showed up in her books in both words and illustrations.
The walks in this book are based on following her footsteps in the countryside, visiting her former farms and land holdings, and seeing her story settings. Potter did not climb mountains or hills, therefore the routes in the book are low level and relatively easy.
The introduction to each walk spells out the length of the walk (ranging from 3-6 miles), car parking information, where refreshments can be purchased, a general description of the walk, and a sketch map. This is followed by details of the walk and its connection with Potter. Illustrations and photographs are interspersed with the text.
A brief biography of Beatrix Potter is included. All Potter fans will want to own this beautiful little book whether they intend to do the walks or not. It is a fascinating insight into the writer’s countryside rambles.
The book’s authors have also written a number of Tea Shop Walks books including one for the Lake District.
