Areas included are England, Wales, and Scotland. England is divided into London, southern England, central England, northeastern England, and northwestern England. The Channel Islands and Isle of Man are also included. In addition to information on the different counties of England, areas of special interest such as the Cotswolds, Exmoor national park, and the Lake District, have their own section.
Cardiff, south Wales, mid Wales, and north Wales make up the section on Wales. Scotland is divided into Edinburgh, Glasgow and the south, central Scotland, and the Highlands and islands.
Suggested itineraries, a map, information on the history and culture, food and drink, and outdoor activities give a snapshot picture of Britain. Transport information and a directory of festivals, holidays, and more make adjusting to a new situation easier. Included in each section of the guide are accommodations, transportation, and places to eat. Practical information on attractions describes what to see and gives locations, opening hours and phone numbers. An index and a glossary add to the guide’s usefulness. Black and white maps are scattered throughout the book, orienting you to each area.
The wealth of details in the guide helps take the hassles out of your travels. As all areas of Great Britain are included there is not room to cover everything of interest. Lonely Planet has separate guides for each of the countries should you need an in-depth look at them. Include this guide in your luggage as an essential item.
