Scotland Where to Stay Guides 2006
by Visit Scotland

Visit Scotland Hotels and Guesthouses There are two books in the Scotland Where to Stay Guide series for 2006. Scotland Hotels and Guest Houses incorporates inns, lodges, bed and breakfasts, restaurants with rooms, campus accommodation, guest houses, and hotels in its listings. Self-Catering includes serviced apartments, hostels, houses, and cottages. These all-inclusive and informative guides are chock full of helpful information to use in planning your holiday stay in Scotland.

The guides divide Scotland into eight areas and each property is listed alphabetically by postal address within the area. There is a brief introduction to the different sections, travel information, and a list of all the tourist information centres for each area with their address, telephone number and email address. Also included is a list of events with dates, description, websites, and locations, an important holiday planning feature.

The first section of the book has enhanced entries for establishments. The second part lists all the Visit Scotland approved accommodation in a brief format.

Visit Scotland Self Catering In the first section each accommodation entry contains detailed information provided by the proprietors. Full addresses, telephone/fax numbers, email and web addresses are included. A map (handy maps are included in the book) reference is given for each establishment. The number of units and how many they sleep, the price for low and high season, a description of the property, and travel directions are in the enhanced entries. They also have symbols that tell what is available in each room, i. e. hairdryer, TV, etc. as well as what is generally available (parking, laundry, etc.) A handy back flap folds out so the symbol key is easy to view for interpretation when reading the entries.

The diamond and star ratings are fully explained. Scotland, Wales, and England operate under the same rating scheme. There is also a national accessible scheme, and establishments meeting standards for hearing, visually, and mobility impairment are noted.

These books include a wealth of information to help you organize your holiday accommodation from home or while on the road. They are an invaluable resource and a perfect companion to your holiday. Get them and start enjoying Scotland.
