Gidleigh, a Dartmoor Village Past and Present

An updated edition of ‘Gidleigh, a Dartmoor Village Past and Present’ has been republished thanks to a grant from the Moor than meets the eye Scheme’s Parishscapes project.

The book, first published in 2000, has been updated and amended by authors Tony Grumley-Grennan and Michael Hardy to reflect changes to the parish over the last 19 years.

Including new information on property ownership, residents and land use in and around the parish, the hard-cover book contains photographs by Chris Chapman, illustrations and maps.

The new edition book launches at Gidleigh Village Hall at 6pm on 4 April. The evening will provide an opportunity to purchase a copy and meet the authors. Refreshments and a small libation will be offered. The book is priced at £20 and all proceeds will be used to support future community heritage projects in the parish.

Parishscapes lead Emma Stockley said, “Thanks to Lottery players, this beautiful book is available once again, having been out of print for a number of years. The authors have worked incredibly hard over the last eighteen months to ensure this new copy is updated and as a result, it is sure to be a welcome addition to any Dartmoor-lover’s library.”
