White Park Bay, County Antrim

Photo of beach by Barbara Ballard White Park Bay is a National Trust property in Northern Ireland. The sandy beach connects two headlands. As you walk on the sand, it squeaks, giving it the name “singing sands”.

Ringed plover courtesy Cornwall Cam The bay is a designated ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest) because of its coastal grasslands that support bird and animal life. Bird life includes the grasshopper warbler, reed bunting, and whitethroat. Also on show are breeding ringed plovers and passing sanderlings.

Cliffs at west end of the bay by Anne Burgess courtesy Geograph Britain and Ireland Porpoises and basking sharks like the waters. Cattle graze on the grasslands, helping to form a habitat for pyramidal orchids, spring squill, frog orchid, meadow cranesbill, and adders tongue in this SAC (Special Area of Conservation).
