Shannon Region Drives

Map of the Shannon Region The Shannon Region extends from the wild Atlantic coasts of counties Clare and Kerry to the equally dramatic but usually placid lowlands of the Shannon valley and the great midland bogs, lakes and wetlands. Much of it is the preserve of visitors whose first love is heritage and landscape. Other parts, such as the Cliffs of Moher, draw crowds because of their spectacular beauty. But even these have space enough to accommodate those that want to enjoy them in peace and solitude.

Cliffs of Moher Sunset courtesy Shannon Development Six circular routes introduce the region. Each one makes a comfortable day trip, allowing you to visit all the places named and get back in time for dinner. But you could equally enjoy taking a couple of days or even a week for any of them. You can walk rather than drive through the Burren or take a boat to Clonmacnoise and visit all the little harbours of Lough Derg.
