Waddeson Manor is not only a stunning historic home but the interior is filled with art treasures that are part of the Rothschild family’s collections. 
The house and grounds were the brainchild of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, who purchased the site in 1874 from the duke of Marlborough. The house was built in the Renaissance style to resemble a French chateau, the architect Destailleur being French. The grounds were designed by a French landscape gardener, Laine. 
The art collection, focussed on French 18th century pieces, includes Savonnerie carpets, Sèvres porcelain, French royal furniture, 17th and 18th century books, gold boxes (stolen in 2003), textiles, paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds and 17th century Dutch and Flemish masters, and miscellaneous other items. In addition to the French collection there are German Meissen animals, an 18th century Augsburg table and an18th century silver service made for George III, a collection of ancient coins, and a set of 18th century drawings. 
In the extensive grounds are 600 David Austen roses, trees, a parterre, a water garden, sculptures, walks, and an historic aviary in the style of German rococo pavilions.
