AA 5 diamond, RAC Little Gem, Which? Hotel guide Hotel of the Year
Lydgate House is right in the centre of Dartmoor National park so handy no matter what direction you are touring. The views over the hotel are quiet and relaxing. Set in its own acreage, it overlooks the East Dart river.
The owners live on site and personally run the hotel.
Everything is very clean and beautifully decorated. The public lounge is full of comfortable furniture, a window seat, the morning papers and interesting magazines and books.
Breakfast and dinner are served (except Sun and Mon for dinner) in a large glass conservatory overlooking the countryside. Dinners use fresh and local produce.
There's also a large wooden deck with tables for morning coffee or lunch, weather permitting. This is really a place to come and enjoy even if you never stir during the day.
Three bathrooms have power showers; the other three have tubs with shower attachments. The singles have small shower rooms. Some bathrooms/shower rooms are closet. So check before you book to get what you want.
The long drive in from the highway is one lane and not paved.
